A Morzine based luxury chalet company, Mountain Spaces offers both self-catered and catered chalets along with a personal, hands-on approach to great service. The combination of fantastic food (and of course LVG’s delicious wine), luxury accommodation and exceptional attention to detail make the Mountain Spaces chalets a coveted spot for Alpine visitors – in summer and winter alike. Run by husband and wife team Chris and Kate, it’s no surprise that so many of Mountain Spaces’ guests return year after year to enjoy worry-free holidays. We caught up with Chris to hear more about the Mountain Spaces magic…

How did you get into running Mountain Spaces?

It was boxing day ten years ago, and my parents were asking Kate and I what we were going to do next with our lives. We were toying with the idea of going to New Zealand and we mentioned the idea of running a chalet in Morzine when we came back. We’ve always loved our food, the mountains and the hospitality industry, so Mum just told us to go for it. By January we had a website set up, in July we found our first chalet and before we knew where we were, it was November and we’d moved out here ready for our first winter. We’ve grown slowly but steadily since then and we’ve got some families that were some of our first clients still returning almost ten years later, and trying out our newer chalets such as The Nest and La Vallee.

What are the most popular wines amongst your guests?

The Bosq Blanc and the Chemin de Pins Malbec are both really easy drinkers and very popular. We offer a wine list with four whites and four reds across all of our chalets, to offer people a bit more variety. The Gran Fabrica Gran Reserva is a bit more complex and goes really nicely with some of the dishes on the menu. The Horgelus Colombard- Sauvignon is also popular, it’s a bit more zingy and out there, it’s good to offer our guests a range.

Why do you choose LVG as your wine partner?

There’s a few reasons, you’ve got a really good range available so we have a good selection of wines to pull our wine list from. We’re really about delivering outstanding service to our guests and we rely on excellent service from our suppliers to help achieve that. The service from LVG is cracking, we always do a pre-season tasting each year to select our wines which means we can get sorted in terms of drawing up our menus with plenty of time before our winter guests arrive. We also really benefit from the knowledge LVG provide, I wouldn’t describe myself as a wine buff, so it’s useful to be able to pick their brains. Staff training and tastings with LVG means that we can talk through menu pairings and make sure that all the staff are on board with what we offer.
