A few weeks ago, we teamed up with Oli from le Bouche à Oreille to bring you an evening of ‘Moules Frites & Wine to Match’ -think fresh Picpoul de Pinet from the Languedoc, fruity Il Faggio from Northern Italy and even a wheat beer from London brewers Fourpure. Blooming delicious.

It was a great evening (and not just because we were supplying the booze). The relaxed and welcoming atmosphere at le Bouche à Oreille makes it amazingly easy to while away the hours, and French and English customers alike clearly feel at home. Couple that with the top notch Moules Frites and Pizza being produced in the kitchen and you can see why it’s a firm fave amongst the St Jean d’Aulps crew. We’ll definitely be heading back for their Friday Open Mic night or one of their famous summer BBQ’s…

Gutted you missed out on our Moules Frites soirée? All is not lost… we’re hosting events in every corner of the Alps up to Christmas. Check out where you can find us & our bonza booze here.

We also managed to grab Oli and grill him on his top tipples & why he chooses to work with us…

Why choose Le Verre Gourmand as your wine partner?

Choosing wine can be really difficult, but LVG make it much more relaxed and a really fun experience. Adam came to us, dressed in his shorts and his flip flops, and I appreciated his laid- back approach. We tried some wine, we had some cheese and it wasn’t stressful or difficult, it was fun and that’s exactly how it should be. I don’t have a big range of wines, at the moment it’s a couple of reds, three whites and a couple of rosés. I’ve picked wines that are popular with a lot of people and they go down well. I’m planning to increase the variety of wines we stock in the future.

What do you think makes a fantastic experience for your diners?

People come here to chill, it’s very relaxed and people feel at home here. There’s a good mix of French and English, both in terms of the staff and the clients. I never used to go to bars, so when I opened my own bar, I wanted to make it welcoming and relaxed. You can have a fantastic setting and menu, but if the atmosphere isn’t right no one will come back.

And finally, if you had to drink one wine for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Oh la la! That’s not easy. It depends on the occasion, I do love Chateau-Neuf-du-Pape, and Rioja, but there are too many good wines out there, too much choice. That’s why its so hard to create a really good wine menu. That said, I tried your St. Julien Talbot 2009 the other day, that was lovely. If it was a little cheaper I’d be buying it by the crate…
