About The Producer Togouchi

The authentic Japanese whiskies from Togouchi waver between conformism and originality. The seven dedicated artisans who produce the distillery's spirits are plying skills acquired over a century of crafting traditional Japanese spirits such as sake and shochu in tandem with conventional whisky production methods, to which they add their own twist. Drawing on a thoroughly analyzed production process and a rigorous selection of ingredients, the bottles in the Togouchi line deliver distinct aromatic profiles with innovative finishes. Launched in 2018 in the town of Hatsukaichi, on the coast of the Seto Inland Sea, Sakurao Distillery is taking the next step in disseminating its expertise with the release of its first single malt. Drawing on the wealth of knowledge held by a team of accomplished Japanese craftsmen, all of whom hail from the Hiroshima area, the distillery aims to become a leading player on the market with authentic and expertly made products bearing the marks of their extraordinary surroundings. In addition to its brand new, innovative facilities, the distillery never hesitates to repurpose its equipment and make artful modifications in order to obtain precise aromatic profiles. The art of distillation is masterfully handled by Miki Wahara, the first woman to hold the position of distillation manager at Sakurao. All these factors contribute to a unique range of elegant, fruity whiskies that are distilled, aged, and bottled in Japan.
